It is hard for a medical students to reach the ideal balance between heart and brain, it is actually one of the hardest obstacles in a medical career. To reach objectivity is something far too hard, way much like catching fume with bared hands both are closer to imagination than reality. Although being objective is very easy when it is not related personally to you, it is very hard when the subject is related to you, it is complicated when the subject is demanded to be objective.
Today however, I was put in the situation where objectivity is demanded of me when I got humiliated. Being an objective medical student is ridiculously hard, but being an international medical student that demanded to be objective is way harder.
You as a reader might not know but I am Muslim, hijabi, international medical student who her study took place in country still trying to heal from racism against foreigners, not all people of course I have some great turkish friends and teachers. But some of the older generation is still not fully accepting the fact that a foreigner can have a chance on their grounds.
The problem is with my lack of experience, and their lack of acceptance I lost my first battle of being objective. Me the so called a fighter soul couldn’t stand their treatment, letting them wen a battle of my war against everyone who says I cant, who thinks I shouldn’t be here.
With their entrance to the room, and when the doctor wasnt there as any medical student I tried to do my job helping them to finish their routine post op follow up as fast so she can relax and go home as soon as the doctor finish her visit. I started to ask her the normal questions, when she pretended that she could not figure out what I have been saying “I cant understand you!” With a huge sarcasm and full of bad intentions voice tone.
I ask about the patient with other workers aberrantly she lived long in UK, and she has a huge problem with hijabis covered women. The funny part UK has a lot of hijabi or Muslim doctors, from Pakistan and different countries, and they are very smart and successful.
People who are racisi are just so pathetic that they cant take the benefit of very good intentions individuals who come into their way.
